La Réserve sits on the right bank of Lake Geneva, a short drive north of the city, inside a walled park that runs down to the water. Arrival feels rural. The centre of Geneva is still close.

Inside, Jacques Garcia's interiors play a long game with the idea of a safari lodge: carved animals, dark timber, patterned textiles and objects arranged like a private collection. It is a staged world, and it is meant to be looked at as much as used.

A spa, several restaurants and a private jetty round out the property. Rooms open onto the gardens or the lake.

South Pigalle, a quiet side street, a hotel that has kept its old name. Hôtel Amour reopened in 2006 under Thierry Costes and the artist André Saraiva, and it has never tried to look polished.

Rooms are small and each one differs. Photographs, drawings and found pieces cover the walls, and several rooms were shaped by artists and friends of the house.

Downstairs, the restaurant spills into a planted courtyard that fills up from breakfast to late evening. Guests and neighbours share it.

Few hotels are built around a single medium. This one is. Le Drawing Hotel opened in 2017 on rue de Richelieu, a few minutes from the Palais-Royal and the Louvre.

Its founders, collectors Christine and Philippe Phan, also run the DDESSIN drawing fair. The ground floor holds the Drawing Lab, a public exhibition space with a changing programme.

Upstairs, each corridor carries a wall drawing made for the building by a contemporary artist. Rooms are calm and pared back, which lets the work outside them lead.
